Game taxonomy to do list

1. Outline curriculum standards for Science, Technology, SS and ELA
Notes: all standards should be in the same format and structure as to numbering/bulleting and so. Language should be simple and short. Also, before releasing the taxonomy and populating the site, standards should be proofread and checked with a 6th grade teacher.

2. Outline integrated domains as standards
Notes: * discuss with Katie how the integrated school domains will be better ‘ integrated’ in the taxonomy. ( As it is set for now, we have classic standards connected to games and analysis of those games, as you can see in the diagram below. The connection with the integrated domains occurs within the analysis. However would that connection be something to consider as having a more important placement within the site? )

3. Construct an excel document as a Rubric map. This would contain all standards for every section as well as how those apply to the questions that are suggested in the taxonomy research. The map could be used as a template to be filled in with information from games that we have play-tested. Eventually, games that have better rating will be the ones chosen for the game taxonomy.
Notes: the analysis is based on the following tags
number of players
time to play
suggested ages
description
genre platform
weblinks
core learning activity
integrated domains
pedagogy
learning practices
has a level editor
social interaction
6th grade curriculum standards
data sets
tags

4. Suggest ten games for each category. There should be a balance between board games, physical games and digital games as well as level editors. Trhoughout the months of June/ July and August we will have to play and document these games.
Notes: this task could involve initiating a volunteer position that would play with us once or twice a week.

5. Prototype the taxonomy site. Information architecture, develop a working tool that would be populated with the information that is already gathered from the math research.

6. Play-test the interaction * possibly in the summer workshop?

7. Gather information from the summer workshop as to what else should be added to / removed from/ changed etc in the taxonomy site.

8. Find a better name.

9. Graphic design, research style and present a set of different solutions.
Notes: this will happen while we build the prototype and understand what we can do with flux.

10. Contact Alison Robbins about game literacies that are supported by games.
